The Leonberger was created in 19th-century Leonberg, Germany, with the goal of a lion-like dog symbolic of the town crest. Today's Leonberger is a calm, affectionate giant — wonderful with children and other pets — but with a tragically short lifespan.
Temperament
Calm, gentle, friendly, devoted. Excellent with children.
Exercise needs
60 minutes of moderate daily exercise. Cool conditions.
Grooming
Long heavy double coat. Brush 3× weekly, daily during seasonal moults.
