💩 Poop bags + waste
Under the Litter Pollution Act, leaving dog waste in a public place can mean an on-the-spot €150 fine in Ireland (up to €4,000 in court). Even biodegradable bags need to actually go in a bin. Here's the kit, the rules, and what "compostable" really means on the label.

EN 13432 / TÜV OK Compost certification — break down in industrial composting in 12 weeks. Plant-based (cornstarch). Ireland: don't put in the brown bin (most councils don't accept dog waste). Best as the "least guilty" plastic alternative.
Marketed as "eco" but degrade into microplastics, not compost. Better than nothing, not as good as certified compostable. Look at the small print: if it doesn't cite EN 13432 or ASTM D6400, treat it as plastic.
Cheap, leak-proof, easy. Reused supermarket bags work. Worst on environment, best on burst-protection. Use double-bag for nervous-tummy dogs. Roll-style bags with tie-off handles save fingertip wrestling on cold days.
Sealed, ventilated outdoor bins (Pet Genie / Doggie Dooley) for back-garden poop. Charcoal filters cut smell. Empty into general waste once it's sealed. Worth it for households with 2+ dogs.
Long-handle scoopers for back-garden cleanup (knee-saving for older owners). Lead-attached bag dispensers (Earth Rated, Trixie) so you never leave the house without bags. Bag-on-lead is the move.
Length 32–35 cm minimum (covers your wrist). Thickness 18 microns+ for big dogs (a Lab's output WILL burst a thin bag). Earth Rated 17 micron + Bags On Board 24 micron are popular tested choices. Cheap supermarket-brand bags fail at the worst time.
"Eco-friendly" / "biodegradable" — meaningless without certification. "Compostable" — needs EN 13432 or TÜV OK Compost / ASTM D6400 to be real. Most "biodegradable" bags fragment to microplastics in landfill, not compost.
General-waste (black/grey) bin — always allowed. Brown / compost bin — usually NOT (check your council, most ban pet waste). Public street bin — fine. Drain or hedgerow — illegal under the Litter Pollution Act, €150 on-the-spot fine.
Failing to clean up = on-the-spot €150 (litter warden), or up to €4,000 court fine. Wardens patrol popular dog-walking spots in every council area. "I forgot a bag" is not a defence. Carry spares + a clip-on dispenser.
Public bin: yes (yes, even though "but it's a binbag inside a bin"). Home: general waste only. Compost heap: NO — pet waste carries pathogens (Toxocara, Giardia). Garden bury (deep, away from veg): possible but check local council bylaws.

In Ireland, almost all councils say NO — pet waste carries Toxocara + other pathogens that survive municipal composting. General waste only. Some councils run separate pet-waste bin schemes (rare). Check your council website to be sure.
A 25 kg dog produces 250–400 g of waste a day, usually 2–3 bags. Annual: 800–1,000 bags per dog. Buy in bulk packs of 800–1,200 — much cheaper per bag than 50-packs at the supermarket.
