Tailless cat from the Isle of Man. Sturdy, dog-like, affectionate.
The Manx is the original tailless cat, native to the Isle of Man for centuries. The genetic mutation that causes taillessness can also cause spinal defects when both parents carry the gene β modern responsible breeding tries to limit this.
Temperament
Calm, friendly, dog-like, often "fetching" toys. Manx are good with children, dogs and other cats.
Exercise needs
Moderate play needs.
Grooming
Short or long-coat varieties. Weekly to 2β3Γ weekly brushing.
Common health issues
Manx syndrome (spinal defects from the tailless gene β affects ~30% of homozygous kittens). Arthritis. Megacolon. Corneal dystrophy.
