Norwegian Forest Cat
Sturdy Scandinavian longhair. Mythological "skogkatt" of Norse legend.
The Norwegian Forest Cat ("skogkatt") features in Norse mythology β Freya's chariot was supposedly drawn by these cats. They're a natural breed shaped by Norway's harsh winters: dense double coats, water-resistant outer guard hairs, tufted ears and substantial bones.
Temperament
Friendly, calm, independent. "Wegies" enjoy company but don't demand constant attention. Excellent climbers β provide tall cat trees.
Exercise needs
Moderate. Big climbers; need vertical space.
Grooming
Long double coat, surprisingly low-mat. Brush 2β3Γ weekly, daily during seasonal moults.
Common health issues
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Glycogen storage disease type IV (DNA test). Hip dysplasia. Generally robust.

Families with children, multi-pet homes, owners with houses (vertical space matters).

Owners who don't want any shedding.
