Munchkin
Short-legged cat — controversial breed due to dwarfism gene. Playful and affectionate.
The Munchkin emerged from a single Louisiana cat in 1983 with naturally short legs (achondroplasia mutation). The breed is controversial — like the Scottish Fold, the same gene that creates the look causes joint and spinal issues in some cats. Major welfare bodies have concerns.

Affectionate, playful, sociable. Climb less than typical cats but otherwise active.
Exercise needs
Moderate.

👍 Best for
Owners who have weighed welfare concerns and have funds for joint care.
👎 Not best for
Most prospective owners — many breeders and welfare bodies recommend choosing a healthy alternative.
