The Ocicat was developed in the 1960s by crossing Siamese, Abyssinian and American Shorthair — a fully domestic cat with a wild appearance. No wild ancestry at all, despite the looks.

Temperament

Sociable, intelligent, outgoing, dog-like. Excellent with families.

Exercise needs

High. Need cat trees, interactive toys, ideally a feline companion.

Grooming

Short coat, weekly brush.

Common health issues

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Generally hardy.
