Flat-Coated Retriever
Glossy black or liver retriever. "Peter Pan" of dogs — eternally puppy-like.
The Flat-Coated Retriever was the favourite British retriever before being eclipsed by the Lab and Golden in the early 1900s. Famously slow to mature ("Peter Pan dogs"), they remain puppy-like well into adulthood.
Temperament
Joyful, friendly, sociable, energetic. Excellent with families.
Exercise needs
90+ minutes daily.
Grooming
Long flat coat with feathering. Brush 2× weekly.
Common health issues
Cancer is the leading cause of death (over 50%). Hip dysplasia. Patellar luxation. Lifespan averages just 8–10 years.

Apartments. Owners afraid of grief.
