The Bombay was created in 1950s America by crossing American Shorthairs with sable Burmese, with the goal of producing a domestic "miniature panther". Glossy jet-black coat, vivid copper eyes, and the intensely affectionate Burmese temperament.

Temperament

Outgoing, affectionate, playful, vocal. Excellent with children and other pets.

Exercise needs

Moderate. Play and climb.

Grooming

Short coat, weekly brush. The coat famously has a patent-leather shine.

Common health issues

Same risks as Burmese parents: cranial deformity, hypokalaemia, glaucoma, diabetes.

Families, multi-pet homes, indoor-only households.

👎 Not best for

Owners wanting an aloof cat.
