Named after Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire, this slow-going heavy spaniel was developed in the 18th century for royal pheasant shoots. Move at their own deliberate pace. King Edward VII and George V were enthusiasts.

Temperament

Gentle, mellow, devoted. Excellent with children + other animals. Strong-willed but not high-strung.

Exercise needs

30–60 minutes daily — low to moderate energy. Loves swimming + retrieving.

Grooming

Thick coat with feathering — brush 2–3× weekly. Drools + sheds significantly.

Common health issues

Watch for: hip dysplasia, ectropion/entropion, intervertebral disc disease, obesity (huge appetite + low energy).

👍 Best for

Quieter families wanting a calm gun dog, retirees, allergy-tolerant homes.

👎 Not best for

Active sport seekers, drool-haters, weight-management-difficulty households.
