Sussex Spaniel
A long, low, mellow English spaniel — the dog that gives gun dogs a relaxed reputation.
Developed in Sussex in the 1800s as a slow-moving spaniel suited to thick brush. They're built long and low, with a distinctive golden-liver coat unique to the breed. One of the rarest gun dogs in the UK.
Temperament
Calm, dignified, friendly. Less energetic than other spaniels. Forms strong bonds with family.
Exercise needs
30–45 minutes daily — moderate energy.
Grooming
Thick golden-liver coat — brush 2–3× weekly. Some trimming around feet.
Common health issues
Watch for: hip dysplasia, ear infections, heart issues, intervertebral disc disease (long back).
