The Cairn Terrier is one of the oldest working terriers of Scotland — bred to hunt vermin among the rock cairns of the Highlands. Made famous worldwide by Toto in The Wizard of Oz. Sturdy, alert, and surprisingly trainable.
Temperament
Friendly, alert, courageous, sometimes stubborn. Excellent with families. Strong prey drive.
Exercise needs
60 minutes of daily exercise plus play.
Grooming
Weather-resistant double coat. Hand-strip every 8–10 weeks; weekly brush.
Common health issues
Globoid cell leukodystrophy (DNA test). Patellar luxation. Allergies.
