Dignified, independent Scottish terrier — the "Scottie". Famously serious for a small dog.
The Scottish Terrier was bred in the Scottish Highlands to hunt rats and foxes from rocky dens. Today's Scottie is dignified, independent and famously stubborn — a small dog with the temperament of a much larger guardian.
Temperament
Independent, dignified, alert, determined. Scotties bond closely with family but are aloof with strangers and can be reactive with other dogs.
Exercise needs
45 minutes of daily walking plus mental work.
Grooming
Wire double coat. Hand-strip or clip every 8 weeks.
Common health issues
Scottie cramp. Bladder cancer (over-represented). Von Willebrand's. Craniomandibular osteopathy.

Single-pet households, experienced terrier owners.

Households with young children or other small pets.
