Puli
A Hungarian herding dog with corded "dreadlock" coat — striking appearance, sharp working dog underneath.
Hungarian shepherd dog dating back over 1,000 years. The famous corded coat develops naturally from a soft puppy coat — owners "separate" the forming cords with their fingers. Used to herd sheep on the Hungarian plains.
Temperament
Energetic, alert, devoted to family. Loud, vocal watchdog. Strong herding instinct — may try to herd children + other pets.
Exercise needs
60+ minutes daily — needs work or job.
Grooming
Corded coat is high-maintenance for the first 2 years (separating cords), then easier — never brushed but cords need separating + drying carefully after bathing.
Common health issues
Generally hardy. Watch for: hip dysplasia, eye conditions, deafness.
👍 Best for
Experienced active owners willing to learn coat care, allergy-conscious homes.
👎 Not best for
First-time owners, anyone unwilling to commit to 2-year cord-formation period.
