Norwegian Elkhound
An ancient Scandinavian spitz — bred to hunt moose alongside Vikings, now a hardy family companion.
One of the world's oldest dog breeds — bones found in Norwegian Viking graves. Still used in Scandinavia to track moose + bear. Sturdy, fearless, and built for cold weather.
Temperament
Confident, friendly, loyal. Vocal — they were bred to bark to alert hunters. Good with children, suspicious of strangers.

Grooming
Thick grey double coat sheds heavily 2× per year. Brush 2–3× weekly, daily during moult.

👍 Best for
Active families in cooler climates, allergy-tolerant homes, those wanting an old-soul breed.
